Tumakuru, Nov 10: In yet another blow to Janata Dal (Secular) and Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party has managed to register victory in bypoll to the Sira assembly segment in Tumakuru district.
BJP candidate Dr CM Rajesh Gowda wins by a margin of 12,949 votes. The Vokkaliga heartland has always been JD(S) bastion. Saffron party has finally won it for the first time in the Karnataka assembly elections.
The bypoll in Sira was necessitated following the death of JD(S) legislator B Sathyanarayana in August this year. More details are awaited.
"I have just 2.5 years left. I will focus on development. Please don't organize any felicitation. I want to work,” said Dr CM Rajesh Gowda after victory.
“People wanted a change. There was appreciation for the BJP governments in the state and Centre. People aspire for development, especially irrigation and basic infrastructure. The Madalur lake will flow in the next three months," he added.
