Mangaluru, Nov 25: BJP government will not allow the anti-social elements to thrive in the society at any cost, said district-in-charge minister V Sunil Kumar.

Speaking after visiting Nagori on Friday, where a blast occurred in a moving autorickshaw on November 19, the minister said the government would not take soft stand towards those organisations that aim at creating fear in the society.

Mr Kumar, who is also minister for Energy, Kannada and Culture, said the society should unitedly fight against such anti-social elements. “It is learnt through media reports that, as a continuation of the blast, there was conspiracy to target Kadri Temple, some offices and public places. It shows that the whole purpose of the act is to target the Hindu society. There is a larger conspiracy at the state and national level, which has been foiled,” he said.

“I condemn the incident and the state government has taken all measures to tackle the incident effectively. To know the depth of the case and those behind the incident and to crack the case, the case has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA),” he said.

"The government has been taking bold steps to foil the conspiracies aimed at spreading fear in the society. After the Shivamogga incident and Praveen Nettaru murder, the government had taken steps to ban organisations like the PFI, which is also part of the bold steps taken by the government to curb anti-social activities in the society."

“We are confident of the national investigation agency and the police investigation,” said Sunil.

On demand for setting up NIA office in Mangaluru, he said, “it will be a reality one or other day. The centre has responded to the demand. The guidelines and rules pertaining to it are being looked into by the government. Further, we have taken all steps that need to be taken to check such incidents in the future. Such a fearful situation should not be created not only in Karnataka but also in any other parts of the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it clear that he will not rest without ending terrorism. More than that, the entire society must unitedly fight against it. The society should be cautious against those who support such activities directly or indirectly,” said the Minister.

The minister said that elected representatives and the BJP will bear the medical expenses of the treatment of auto driver Purushotham K who suffered injuries in an auto blast at Nagori in Mangaluru on November 19.

Steps will be taken to provide compensation from the government to the family. The district administration will send a proposal to the state government, he said.

Mangaluru: A tragic accident took place on Saturday at Chembugudde near Thokkottu, claiming the life of a 47-year-old woman after a tanker lorry ran over her. The victim, identified as Rahmat H Rashid, was riding pillion with her husband, Abdul Rashid G, on their scooter.

The couple was traveling from Yenepoya Hospital to Bajpe when the scooter skidded on the poorly maintained road. Rahmat fell onto the road and was fatally struck by a tanker lorry that was coming from behind. Despite being rushed to the hospital, doctors declared her dead upon arrival.

The incident prompted a swift response from the DYFI Ullal Taluk Committee, which staged a protest on Saturday night, condemning the unsafe condition of the road. Nithin Kuthar, president of the committee, criticized MLA and Legislative Assembly Speaker UT Khader for failing to ensure safe infrastructure, despite touting the road as toll-free.

Kuthar demanded immediate repairs, warning that the committee would march to the MLA’s office with black flags if the road is not fixed within a week.

Former DYFI State President Sunil Kumar Bajal also voiced frustration over the deteriorating condition of Thokkottu market, highlighting the struggles people face while crossing roads riddled with dangerous potholes. In response to public outcry, temporary repairs were made to the road at Chembugudde on Sunday, though locals remain wary and demand a more permanent solution.

The Palestinian Hamas resistance movement says its fighters have killed at least 20 Israeli soldiers in northern parts of the besieged Gaza Strip in just two days, in retaliation for the occupying regime’s genocidal war on the Palestinian territory.

In a statement on Monday evening, Hamas said that fighters of its military wing, al-Qassam Brigades, “killed at least five occupation soldiers” in northern parts of the coastal territory earlier in the day.

It added that Hamas fighters also killed 15 Israeli soldiers in the war-ravaged region on Sunday.

The resistance movement’s “qualitative operation … confirms once again the failure of the criminal Zionist entity to suppress and eradicate the Palestinian resistance, which continues to direct qualitative strikes against its terrorist soldiers,” Hamas further said on its Telegram channel.

Palestinians have increased their resistance operations in the face of intensified Israeli aggression in northern Gaza that has claimed the lives of more than 1,000 over the past weeks.

“Our valiant resistance is waging a war of attrition with the criminal enemy, inflicting daily losses on its soldiers and vehicles, and all of [Israeli prime minister Benjamin] Netanyahu’s bets and dreams of achieving any of his goals are failing,” the Gaza-based resistance movement added.

Hamas also vowed that Israel’s ongoing crimes and aggression against Gaza would be met with increased resistance and painful strikes, which will continue until the aggression against Palestinians ends and the regime fully withdraws from the blockaded territory.

As the war in Gaza enters its 14th month, the Health Ministry reports that Israeli attacks have killed at least 43,603 Palestinians and wounded 102,929 others.

Mangaluru: The Ullal police have arrested Manohar, the owner of Vazco Beach Resort, and its manager Bharath in connection with the drowning of three college girls from Mysuru at the resort’s swimming pool on November 17.

City Commissioner of Police Anupam Agrawal confirmed the arrests, stating that a case has been registered under Section 106 of BNS. The bodies of the victims, all in their twenties, have been handed over to their parents. The women had arrived at the resort for a weekend getaway on November 16.

Following the tragic incident, the resort was sealed by officials led by Mangaluru Assistant Commissioner Harshavardhan. The trade license of the resort, issued on June 13, 2024, has been suspended, and the tourism department has temporarily revoked the resort's registration. These actions prohibit the resort from engaging in any tourism-related activities until further notice.

Someshwara TMC Chief Officer stated that the suspension was due to the resort's failure to implement adequate safety measures, which resulted in the loss of three lives. Further investigations are underway.
