Jaipur, October 23: The Rajasthan ATS on Friday filed a charge sheet against five 2007 Ajmer blast accused, accusing them of murder and defiling a place of worship.

A senior RSS leader, Indresh Kumar, is among those named in the charge sheet, which says the blast at the Ajmer Dargah three years ago was the result of an elaborate conspiracy hatched by a group of Hindu radicals.

The chargesheet says:

  • Indresh took part in a meeting in Jaipur on October 31, 2005 with seven others

  • In the meeting he exhorted members to do radical acts

  • Indresh said being part of religious organisations will help them avoid suspicion and accomplish their mission

  • Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, an accused in the Malegaon blast case, was also present in that meeting.

Police say there is not enough evidence to frame charges against Indresh yet, but there's every possibility he will be questioned.

The Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot, says the RSS must accept the truth.

"The RSS should accept the truth which has come out," said Gehlot.

"The ATS has done a very good job as it was very important for the truth to come out and it is now in the open. A link was found between Ajmer Sharif blast, Jaipur and Malegaon blasts and the wrongdoers were caught. I think the ATS has done a good job for which even the central Government had thanked them," Gehlot added.

But the man in the eye of the storm, Indresh Kumar, claims he's being framed. "It is a political conspiracy," he told media persons.

The RSS has backed Indresh, but it's turning out to be a blame game between the Congress and the BJP.

"The RSS has been consistently working to undermine and upset the pluralistic ethos of India," said Manish Tewari, Congress Spokesperson.

"This is a political conspiracy to tarnish the image of organisations like RSS which is involved in nation building," said Nirmala Sitharaman, BJP Spokesperson.

The 806-page charge sheet was filed by the Anti-Terrorist Squad in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Jagendra Kumar Jain in connection with the blast on the premises of the Dargah of Khawaja Moinuddin Chishti that left three persons dead and 15 others injured.

The accused have been charged with sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 120B (conspiracy) and 295 (injuring or defiling place of worship) of IPC among others.

The prosecution has cited 133 witnesses. The court fixed October 26 for arguments on the charge sheet.

BJP defends bomber

Meanwhile Defending RSS leader Indresh Kumar, whose name figures in the Ajmer blast chargesheet, BJP on Saturday said there was nothing "substantial or credible" against him and accused the government of targeting nationalist organisations while keeping quite on Kashmiri separatists.

"According to our information Indresh Kumar has not been named as an accused in the chargesheet. There is nothing substantial or credible against him... No organisation has been named. How can anyone say that BJP or RSS is involved or that this is saffron terror," BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said.

At the same time, she maintained that Kumar will defend himself "as a citizen" in court while RSS was "more equipped to talk" about its members figuring in the chargesheet.

Mangaluru, Dec 16: A tragic incident unfolded at Someshwara beach on Monday when a woman, participating in the Pinda Pradhana ritual for her late brother-in-law, lost her life after drowning.

The deceased, Usha (72), was the wife of the late Jagadish Bhandary from Derebail. She had traveled to Someshwara with her relatives to perform the ritual for her brother-in-law, Karunakar Bhandary, who had passed away recently.

After completing the ceremony, Usha and her relatives went for a sea bath as part of the rites. Tragically, Usha slipped and was swept away by the strong waves. Though her relatives cried out for help, locals who rushed into the sea could only retrieve her lifeless body. She was declared dead when brought to shore.

Usha had retired after a 40-year career as an assistant secretary at the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA). She is survived by her daughter.

The body has been sent to K S Hegde Hospital in Deralakatte for postmortem, and a case has been registered at the Ullal police station.

Bengaluru: Karnataka has declared a holiday for state government offices, schools and colleges on Wednesday, December 11, in the wake of a state funeral for former chief minister S M Krishna, who passed away in Bengaluru on Tuesday.

The last rites of Krishna, 92, will be held at his native village of Somanahalli in Mandya's Maddur taluk.

A government order stated that the holiday would apply to private aided educational institutions too.

Besides, the government has declared three days of mourning (December 10-12), during which no public entertainment programmes would take place, while the national flag would fly at half-mast.

S M Krishna passed away at his residence on December 10, 2024. The 92-year-old veteran politician was ailing for quite some time, a family source said.

A charismatic leader with a modern outlook, he not only laid a strong foundation for the growth of IT and BT industries in Karnataka but also managed to get them onboard with the government to build “Brand Bengaluru” at the international level.

He held several prominent positions throughout his career as External Affairs Minister, Maharashtra Governor, Chief Minister of Karnataka, Speaker of Karnataka Legislative Assembly and Minister in the Karnataka government.

Although known for his tech savviness, flamboyancy, style and the Western outlook, the Congressman-turned-BJP senior leader was a hardcore Bengalorean who loved the city’s trees and flowers. SMK also had a love for tennis. Even when he was Chief Minister, he would visit the tennis court to play the game two to three times a week.

SDPIUdupi.jpg

Udupi: The police have booked a case against the office-bearers of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) for holding 'Chalo Belagavi - Ambedkar Jatha’ without permission and thereby disrupting the movement of vehicles on national highway at Hejmadi.

The SDPI held a jatha on December 10 from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm. According to the police, the group had unlawfully gathered near the National Highway toll gate in Hejmadi. Despite instructions from the PSI to disperse, they failed to act and disrupted the traffic on the national highway.

The police have booked case against SDPI state secretary Riyaz Kadumbu, leaders Haneef Muloor, Nooruddin Mallaru, Firoz Kanchinadka, Thoufeeq Uchila, Majeed Uchila, Ibrahim Kanchinadka and others under Sections 57, 189(2), 189(3), 281, 285 and 190 of the BNS.

About 75 to 100 people commenced a procession --without obtaining permission -- in cars and two-wheelers shouting slogans. They caused inconvenience to the vehicles moving on the national highway, police said.

The jatha, which was launched in Udupi on December 10, is expected to cover Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Davanagere, Haveri, Koppal, Bagalkote, Hubballi, Dharwad and reach Belagavi on December 16.
