He was speaking as the chief guest at the formal inauguration of Sri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology at Bantakal, near here on Saturday evening. He said that as many as 8,087 engineering seats, including the 5,000 seats offered by the private engineering colleges to the state, were vacant in the state and called upon the central government to frame the rules to fill those seats through qualifying exams.
Chief Guest of the programme and Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Resources Development Oscar Fernandies stressed the need for taking up research in technical education.

Chancellor of Vishweshwaraiah Technical University Dr H Maheshappa, Udupi-Chikmagalur MP DV Sadananda Gowda, Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon, Udupi MLA K Raghupathi Bhat, Secretary of the Trust Rathnakumar and others were present.
