Mangalore, February 2: Mangalore City Corporation has bagged the Second Best Urban Local Body Award for 2010 among nine city corporations in the State.
The annual award has been instituted by the Department of Urban Development and Directorate of Municipal Administration for best administrative practices in the delivery of services.
The award carries Rs. 3 lakh and a certificate.
The Commissioner of the Corporation KN Vijayaprakash and Mayor Rajani Dugganna received the award from S Suresh Kumar, Minister for Urban Development, at a function in Bangalore on Tuesday.
Vijayaprakash told media that the selection had been made on the basis of delivery of services in six major categories - water supply, drainage, waste management, road and streetlight maintenance, health services, and financial management.
City Managers' Association, Karnataka (CMAK), which is a professional body under the Directorate of Municipal Administration, did the evaluation, he said.
Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada J. Krishna Palemar and chairpersons of four standing committees of the city corporation were present.
Mysore City Corporation has bagged the Best Urban Local Body Award among all city corporations in the State for 2010, he said.
