Beltangady, February 4: A rubber plantation located at Karimale Chennaithody village of Belthangady taluk caught fire accidentally on Thursday.
The plantation belongs to Seetharam Pai. The loss due to the damage estimated at Rs 8 lakhs.
Fire brigade personnel from Moodbidri and Bantwal rushed to the spot and attempted to douse the flames for two long hours.
It is leant that the dry grass which was kept at Vamadapadav-Kudkoli road near the plantation helped to spread the fire quickly. Some local persons informed the owner after witnessing the fire in the middle of the plantation at 2.30 pm. Rubber trees that aged two and three years were damaged extensively.
B Ramanath Rai, Bantwal MLA, B Padmashekhar Jain, Taluk Panchayat Member and others rushed the spot following the in incident.
