Mangalore, February 4: With the ICC Cricket World Cup fever reaching its crescendo, the city of Mangalore is getting ready to soak in the excitement through the maiden T20 International cricket extravaganza which will be held at NMPT Stadium on February 25.
Former New Zealand Captain Chris Cairns will lead the 'Chris Cairns XI' international cricket team consisting of cricket stars from Australia, New Zealand and England to fight against the warriors of Dakshina Kannada Cricket Association for the “Chris Cairns Foundation Charity Cricket Cup”.
Addressing the media persons at Press Club here on Saturday, Joseph Rego, Head of Chris Cairns Foundation and President of Global Sports and Celebrity Management Network, which is hosting the event, said that the game would be based on 20:20 format following all International cricket rules. Tickets for the event would be lowly priced and the stadium atmosphere would be carnival with dances, DJ music and entertainment galore, he said.
The main objective of the event is to inculcate a sense of sporting activity to the children of Dakshina Kannada, he said adding that the Foundation would also host a charity fund-raising ball on the same day in the evening at Boat Club, Sultan Bathery in association with Mangalore Coastal Round Table which is actively involved in supporting hearing impaired children in the city.
Dr Srikanth Rai, President of Dakshina Kannada Cricket Association and Arjun Pinto, President of Coastal Round Table were present at press meet.
