Udupi, February 8: Prakash Karvi, a handicapped youth from Kodikanyana, Udupi taluk, has achieved a great feet by swimming, his hands cuffed from St Mary's Island to Malpe beach.
The 23 year old Prakash started swimming, after being hands cuffed behind his back by the Sub Inspector of Police, Kota, Mahesh Prasad, at 7 am, from St Mary's Island. He successfully swam till Malpe coast, almost 11 nautical miles from the Island. A police constable released his hands from the cuffs.
Udupi Block Congress President Pramod Madhwaraj, Zilla Panchayath member Shankar Kundar honoured Prakash at Malpe beach on achieving the feet.
Speaking to the media Prakash said, "actually I was expected to reach Malpe beach by 10 am. But, as the sea turned rough I was forced to take a long route''. Prakash said that he hoped to get a government job either under acheiver's category or under the disabled category. .
Prakash, affected by the Polio in his childhood, had been paralyzed of his right leg. Inspite of his disabilities, he gained mastery in swimming. In December 2007 he had swam (without hand cuffed) a 25 kilometer distance between Hangarakatte and Malpe in just 4.30 hours. In December 2008 he had swam a 56 km distance between Gangolly and Kodikanyana beach in just 7 hours.
