Mangalore, February 11: Residents of Bikarnakatte took out a huge procession from Nanthoor to Bikarnakatte protesting the incomplete, slow paced and chaotic works of National Highway 13 on Thursday.
In the massive protest led by Gretta Rebello, Local Corporator, concluded near Infant Jesus Arch. More than 600 residents participated voluntarily and declared bundh in the region.
The protesters also blocked the road shouting slogans against the authorities who have failed to repair the road.
Addressing the protesters Vasantha Kumar Shetty of Sanidhya Residential School, said that it was a shame that the road is still incomplete and there is no convenient road for the public. Moreover the thick dust from incomplete road works has left the residents furious and worried about the risks it poses to the health.
He warned that if authorities fail to fulfill the demands, they would lay siege to the office of NHAI which is located in Valencia.
Most of the shops and commercial complexes in the area remained closed, and the people came together protesting the apathy of District Administration and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
