Mangalore, February 11: The historic 'Dodda Rathotsava', the annual festival of Lord Venkataramana Temple located in the heart of the city at Car Street, was held on Thursday.
The car festival, which was held on the fifth day of the six-day festivities of the temple, is known popularly as 'Kodial Teru'.
The 'Sanna Teru' is pulled the previous day of 'Kodial Teru', while on the next day, 'Holi Utsav (Okkul)' will be celebrated.
Thousands of devotees took part in the Brahma Rathosthava with great devotion.
'Kodial Theru' carrying the deity on wooden chariot, was pulled in the evening as part of the Rathostava. Prior to this, in a huge procession the idol of Venkataramana was taken in a gold palanquin around the sanctum sanctorum along with singing bhajans accompanied by the music.
Sayameendra Teertha Swamiji and Sudheendra Teerta Swamiji of Kashi Mutt Samstahan were present and blessed the occasion.
The temple belongs to Gowda Saraswatha Brahmin (GSB) community and is managed by Kashi Mutt Samstahan.
