Manipal: Jewellery casting course for jobless begins

Manipal, February 14: The month-long jewellery casting course for unemployed youth conducted by Manipal Institute of Jewellery Management (MIJM) in collaboration with the department of Employment and Training, Government of Karnataka, began at the institute on Monday.
A total of 40 boys and girls from various parts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada District are participating in the course.
Dr GK Prabhu, Registrar of Manipal University, presided over the inaugural programme. Appreciating the efforts of the institute in organizing the event, he said that this could be the beginning of a career for many of the 40 candidates taking part in the course.
Pramod Madhvaraj, Chairman of Canara Jewel Tex Pvt Ltd, the chief guest at the occasion, appreciated the need for such vocational training activities for helping the unemployed and the under-privileged youth in the district.
Prof MM Shanbhag, Director, Manipal Institute of Jewellery Management said that the candidates would be given certificates from Department of Employment and Training. MIJM would provide for their placement through Employment Exchange agencies.
