Mangalore, February 22: Former international player Ashok Poovaiah on Tuesday inaugurated a state level indoor intercollegiate shuttle badminton tournament for men and women in the city.
The event is being organised by Shree Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Law College, Mangalore in association with SDM Law College & Centre for Post Graduate Studies in Law, Hubli at Srinivas Mallya Indoor Stadium here.
Speaking on the occasion BK Ravindra, Principal, SDM Law College, opined that sport is an inseparable part of human life. “Involvement in some kind of physical exercise or sports is very much necessary for a sound body and a sound mind,” he opined.
He also called upon the youth to lead a tension free life by cultivating a friendly character.
Khalid B Khan, Director, Physical Education, Karnataka State Law University, lamented the declining interest among students in sports. “It is very sad to know that despite prior information only five girls' teams and seven boys' teams have come here to participate in the tournament,” he said.
“Academic education and sports should go hand in hand. If you neglect sports during your student days, you miss a lot in your life” he said.
Shashiprasad, Physical Director, SDM Law College introduced the players to the guests. Jayarajan, Controller of Examination, Yenepoya University was also present. Ujwala welcomed the gathering and Prakriti Kalyani compered the programme.
