Mangalore, February 24: A group of alleged saffron activists brutally attacked a youth belonging to another community by sword, iron rod and cricket stumps on Thursday evening.
The victim, Nelson D'Souza (27), a resident of RN Villa, Kottarachowki, Mangalore, has been admitted to AJ Hospital for emergency treatment.
A severely injured D'Souza has said that a group of 15 people including Bajrang Dal leader Sharan Pumpwell and Sunil Salian tried to kill him through stabbing by a sword and beating by iron road and cricket stumps.
The incident occurred when Nelson was at RN Garage, owned by his family at Kottarachowki.
“The group armed with sword, iron rod and wickets stormed into our shop and assaulted me in a bid to kill me,” the victim has stated in his written complaint.
However the assaulters ran away from the spot after taking away Rs 1 lakh from cash draw, the complainant said.
Apart from stealing the money, they also vandalized the shop and destroyed all the things inside the shop, the complaint reads.
Urwa police is investigating the matter after registering a case. No arrest has been made so far.
