Dugganna, who is expected to vacate the office within a few days, addressing a press meet at the MCC said that this step is very necessary as the water bill arrears of MCC since 2003-04 have already reached Rs 9.77 crore.
She said that the police team will be consisting of one Sub Inspector, one Assistant Sub Inspector, four Police Constables and two Head Constables.
The state cabinet has recently passed orders for mass disconnection drive to recover water bill arrears in Mangalore, Mysore and Hubli-Dharwad City Corporations amounting to Rs 132 crore, including principal amount and penal interest.
However Dugganna said that disconnection drive in Mangalore is still a distant dream as the civic body does not have the wherewithal to launch such a massive exercise.
She said that a total of Rs 50.54 crore out of the SFC grant of Rs 100 crore, has already been spent for the concretization of 16 roads of which 13 roads have already been completed and 3 are under progress.
Duganna said Rs 8.23 crore has been spent in the process of acquiring land for the construction of a new bus stand in Pumpwell.
She said that Rs. 3.92 crore has been reserved for the development of parks, bus stands, and asphalting roads leading to them. Twenty-three such projects have been completed and four more are still in progress, she said.
As part of energy saving drive, the MCC has planned to use CFLC as a substitute for sodium street lights henceforth, she said.
She also presented a list of developments that had taken place in the form of bio-gas plants, property tax, cleanliness drives, and others.
Standing committee chairpersons Roopa D. Bangera, Shantha R., Sudhir Shetty, and Corporator Ashwini were present.
