Manipal, February 28: Manipal University celebrated National Science Day with different functions over the last five days. It culminated on Monday with the prize distribution by Dr Anil Kakodar, Member, Atomic Energy Commission.

Over 300 students from 15 schools of the Academy of General Education and Dr TMA Pai Foundation took part in the five-day events. A series of competitions such as science seminars, drawings and display of models were held during the week for students from Class 5 to 10.

Speaking to the students, Dr Kakodkar said, “I do look forward to most of you pursuing a career in science. The rate at which India will progress will depend on how many of you do science, how many do research and how many develop new technologies. If you want to be the best in the world in economic wealth, there has to be a larger part of the youth working in science.”

However, he stressed on the importance of children choosing jobs in their own field of interest. “When you choose your career path, you always choose according to how lucrative the career is,” he said. “However, you should choose according to what suits you. It is wrong if someone else does the choosing.”

Dr K Ramnarayan, Vice-Chancellor, Manipal University, Dr GK Prabhu, Registrar, Manipal University and Dr K Satyamoorthy, Director, Manipal Life Sciences Centre were also present.
