Udupi, March 1: District Crime Intelligence Bureau (DCIB) sleuths and City Police on Monday arrested four persons who were involved in stealing copper cable wire, and mobile tower batteries in various places.
The arrested are Manju Poojary (26), a resident of Kottakki in Rattadi village in Kundapura, Chenneshappa (26), resident of Mallapura at Honnali in Davanagere, Chithananda Swamy (24), resident of Mangikuppe, Thuruvekere Taluk in Thumkur, and Basavaraj, a technical staff of Airtel Company.
A week ago, the accused had stolen 24 batteries breaking the shutter door of Tata Indicom tower located near Kuthpady Ayurveda College destroying the alarm and monitor systems. Police, then, had suspected the hand of technical staff in the theft.
Manju Poojary, driver of Aircel company, Chenneshappa, technical staff of the Aircel company and Chithananda Swamy of Uninor company were interrogated by the police.
During the interrogation they revealed that they had stolen batteries and RF cable wires from Manipal, Uppunda, Shiriyara, Airodi, Hebri, Malpe, Moodubelle, Uchila and other places.
They also said Muhammad Siddiq Rahman who resides near Fish Market had purchased the stolen items.
Police recovered four vehicles, one Tavera, one Innova and two Tata Indica cars, 92 batteries, 81 kg copper cable wires valued at 21.52 lakhs.
Under the guidance of Police Inspector Venkateshappa, DySP Jayanth Shetty, Circle Inspector Girish, SI Sampath Kumar, Mahesh Prasad, ASI Thimmappa Gowda, Venkatesh and others took part in the operation.
