Udupi, March 2: The Lokayukta police trapped a Second Division Clerk of Udupi Taluk Office while accepting Rs. 2,000 here on Tuesday.
According to a release issued by the Lokayukta police, G Shivapalan, a resident of Gundibail in the city, had approached the Taluk Office with an application for conversion of his 10 cents of land on December 6, 2010.
When he learnt that the file had landed on the table of the Second Division Clerk Manjunath Nayak at the taluk office, Mr Shivapalan used to go often and enquire about the progress of his application.
But Mr. Nayak used to give evasive replies. When Mr. Shivapalan visited Mr. Nayak at the taluk office on February 22 and asked him about conversion of his land, Mr. Nayak allegedly demanded Rs. 3,000. He asked Mr. Shivapalan to meet him on March 1.
Mr. Nayak then scaled down his demand to Rs. 2,000. But Mr. Shivapalan lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta police, who set a trap for Mr. Nayak and caught him.
