Mangalore, March 4: Two drivers were admitted to a private hospital after they sustained serious injuries in a head-on collision between two bullet tankers on national highway 48 in Hosamajalu near Nelyady, around 50 kilo metres away from here.
The injured have been identified as Murali (25) and Balamurugan (27), both residents of Selam in Tamil Nadu.
The collision took place on Thursday between the tankers-one plying from Mangalore to Bangalore and the other vice versa. One of the tankers was hired by HPCL, while the other was carrying LPG for Indian Oil Corporation.
Due to the severity of the accident the front portions of the vehicles were badly damaged, while the drivers of both vehicles were tossed to a roadside gorge.
This is the third major accident in the area in a month. It can be recalled that on February 8 a tanker accident had resulted in the death of its driver and heavy leakage of gas in Periyashanthi and on March 1, a similar accident occurred near Bedrodi.
