Kadaba, March 4: A ghastly accident involving a jeep and a tipper at Ramakunja village under Kadaba Police station limits on Friday morning left at least three people dead and six others injured, two among them seriously, police sources said.
Police identified the deceased as Podiya alias Padmayya Gowda (55), a resident of Kindovu in Bajathur, Kushalappa Gowda (40), a resident of Alankaur Nadumane and Shanthappa Kumbara (26), resident of Alankaru Sharavoor. While the earlier two died on spot, the third casualty occurred on the way to hospital, sources said.
The jeep was carrying nine persons in all. The injured have been identified as Jeep driver Devu Gowda, passengers Honnappa Gowada, resident of Ramakunja village, Prasad, resident of Alankar Marunthila, Guruva, resident of Ramakunja, Babu and Pavithra, residents of Konthur Belpadi. They have been admitted to different hospitals in Mangalore and Puttur.
According to sources, the accident took place when the jeep, which was transporting passengers from Alankar to Puttur, rammed into an oncoming tar laden lorry, in a bid to overtake a rig lorry.
A case has been registered at Kadaba police staion. CPI Puttur Rural is investigating the matter.
