Nitte: 'Ettin'11' Nat'l level B-school fest starts with a bang

Nitte, March 5: No corporation can survive just with the principle of profit maximization. Sustainability is the key word. Long term sustainability depends upon the triple bottom line. People, planet and life-cycle thinking will determine the scale and depth of a corporation, said Lekshmi Kumaran, DGM, Corporate Communications, MRPL Mangalore.

She was speaking after inaugurating the Ettin-2011, a National Level B-school festival at the Justice KS Hegde Institute of Management, Nitte. She said attitude makes the difference. It is the sum set of choices and beliefs of an individual that contributes to his overall personality, citing examples from today's corporate environment, she said, “Our entire life style today depends on the petroleum products”.

Budding managers being the future of tomorrow should develop concern for fellow beings and planet she added.

She said that a manager is a differentiator. When he takes a management decision, he should always think how he can create a difference and how it does influence the environment. Indian way of thinking and living with the object of Vasudaiva Kutumbakam (entire world our family) is more relevant today than before, she stressed.

Presiding over the function, Dr NK Thingalaya, a noted economist and Chairman of the Academic council of the Institute called upon the budding managers to be very broad based in their thinking. He said competition is the order of the day. Wisdom should prevail upon when making a decision, he added. Director of the Institute AVM Prof K Ramesh Karnik welcomed. Faculty Co-ordinator of Ettin- 2011, Prof Sudhir M briefed about the various innovative tool kit of competitions held in the functional areas of management to test the mettle of budding managers. Yatheesh Rao, student - co-ordinaor proposed the vote of thanks. Vikas Jain compered the programme.

There are 25 B-Schools from throughout the country will be participating in the meet.

BJP indeed lured 50 Cong MLAs with Rs 50 crore each: DKS backs Karnataka CM claim

Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Thursday backed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah over his claim that the BJP had offered Rs 50 crore each to 50 Congress MLAs in an attempt to "topple" the state government.

Addressing reporters here, Shivakumar, also the Congress state president, said, “The BJP indeed lured 50 Congress MLAs with Rs 50 crore each.”

He defended Siddaramaiah’s statement and said the Congress MLAs were briefed about the BJP’s alleged 'Operation Lotus', a term used to describe the BJP's attempts to destabilise ruling governments through horse-trading.

“Some of our MLAs informed the Chief Minister about this matter, and he, in turn, shared it with the media,” Shivakumar said.

At an event in Mysuru, Siddaramaiah reiterated the claim that "none of the Congress MLAs had accepted the offer".

He also accused the BJP of filing false cases against him in a bid to "remove him and overthrow his government".

The BJP has yet to respond to the allegations.

Mangaluru: Resort owner and manager arrested after pool claims lives of 3 college girls

Mangaluru: The Ullal police have arrested Manohar, the owner of Vazco Beach Resort, and its manager Bharath in connection with the drowning of three college girls from Mysuru at the resort’s swimming pool on November 17.

City Commissioner of Police Anupam Agrawal confirmed the arrests, stating that a case has been registered under Section 106 of BNS. The bodies of the victims, all in their twenties, have been handed over to their parents. The women had arrived at the resort for a weekend getaway on November 16.

Following the tragic incident, the resort was sealed by officials led by Mangaluru Assistant Commissioner Harshavardhan. The trade license of the resort, issued on June 13, 2024, has been suspended, and the tourism department has temporarily revoked the resort's registration. These actions prohibit the resort from engaging in any tourism-related activities until further notice.

Someshwara TMC Chief Officer stated that the suspension was due to the resort's failure to implement adequate safety measures, which resulted in the loss of three lives. Further investigations are underway.
