Puttur, March 6: Those who depend on agriculture for livelihood can lead a respectful and self-esteemed life, as nature will always help the farmer, who sees god in her, said Mangalore MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Kadaba block level agriculture fest at Mardhaala on Saturday.
Kateel said that the main priority of the country should be agriculture and it is our responsibility to preserve traditional agricultural system. In this regard, the government should introduce cooperative agricultural system, he added.
Appreciating the efforts of Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade, the MP said the Dharmasthla Rural Development Scheme (DRDS) has encouraged the farmers of the region. “The governments were supposed to do these types of works, but Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala did it with his own effort”, he said.
The executive director of DRDS Dr H L Manjunatha presided over the programme.
APMC President Seetharama Gowda and Puttur Taluk Panchayat Vice President Pusalya Rai also spoke.
