Mangalore, March 7: Around 200 families submitted applications demanding the allotment of house sites on Monday at Amblamogaru Gram Panchayat.
After the mass submission of applications to the Deputy Commissioner through Panchayat, people staged a dharna demanding swift approval of applications as well as the allotment of title deeds to those who had constructed houses on government land.
The mass submission of applications for house sites is a continuation of the campaign launched by the DFYI to submit applications from poor people for housing.
Addressing the protesters, District Convenor of the Democratic Youth Federation of India Muneer Katipalla said the government should allot the house sites for the homeless. He demanded that the Rent Control Act be brought into force again.
Protesters said they will lay siege to DC office, if their demands do not get fulfilled by April.
Ullal Zonal Secretary Ashok Chembugudde, Vice President Rafiq Harekala, Jayanth Amblamogaru, Ibrahim Amblamogaru, Shareef, Madhava and others were present.
