She was speaking after inaugurating the World Theater Day celebrations, organized by Amogha (R), a socio- cultural organization, here on Sunday.
She said that theater in India did not grow to international level, but the traditional forms of arts did. To promote theater some best works, which provoke thoughts in the minds of the spectators, were needed. Government should take initiatives to promote all forms of arts, not only theater, to the international level, she added.
Umashree opined that experience of acting in small screens or cinema is same except for some minor changes. But the lessons learnt in theater take you to a long way and it is long lasting too. Rajkumar, Balanna, Narasimha Raju, B Jayamma, Lokesh, Shankarnag, Mukhyamanthri Chandru, NS Rao, and others who hailed from the theater were the best examples for that.
Speaking on the occasion renowned theater personality Udyavara Madhavacharya hoped that theater would become a guiding light for social harmony.
Kasargod Chinna announced his plan to produce two more dramas, one each in Konkani and Kannada, with actorns from Udupi region.
On the occasion Umashree honoured senior theater personalities Madhavi Bhandari and Laxminarayan Bhat.
Director of 'Amogha' Poornima Suresh presided over the programme.
