NMPT to celebrate National Maritime Day on Apr 5

Mangalore, April 2: The New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) and Port Users will celebrate the 48th National Maritime Day at the NMPT administrative office auditorium at Panambur near here on April 5.
Revealing this at a press meet in Mangalore on Saturday PKS Pilley, Vice president, NMPT Port Users Welfare Association, said the theme of this year's maritime day celebrations is 'Indian Coast Line - A New opportunity'.
The event is celebrated every year on April 5 to commemorate the voyage of first Indian ship S S Loyalty that sailed from Mumbai to London on this day in 1919.
He said the focus of the celebration has been to highlight the role and promote development of Shipping Industry in all aspects, by dissemination of information through publications, meetings, seminars, symposia, workshops, exhibitions, competitions etc.
The principal objective of celebrating the Day is to enable public to know more intimately the activities of the Indian Shipping Industry and the important role it plays in the economy of the country, Pilley pointed out.
