Mangalore, June 13: Although the 'civic tiger' of Mangalore City Corporation is stealing the daily bread of a section of street vendors, the inhabitants of Nirashritara Parihara Kendra situated at Pachchanady are filling their belly with the seized vegetables and fruits.
Half a load of vegetables and fruits seized by evicted street vendors at Central Market and City Bus Terminus area on Monday, was unloaded at the NPK by the 'civic tiger' squad of MCC.
“This was the third time we received seized commodities of road-side vendors,” said Sharada, the Superintendent of NPK, adding that all the three times the quantity of vegetables was more than fruits.
After a weeklong gap, MCC had resumed evicting street vendors from the bustling areas of the city last week, even as it is yet to make alternative arrangements for the vendors inside the central market building.
MCC Commissioner KN Vijayaprakash told Coastaldigest.com that the civic body has taken all the necessary measures to avoid the misuse of seized commodities.
Mr Vijayaprakash said that Assistant Revenue Officer at the Corporation, Praveenchandra Karkera, has been made in-charge of handling the seized vegetables and fruits. “He has to bring confirmation letter from the NPK or other places after handing over the commodities and maintain a record of it,” he added.
While contacted Mr Karkera said the squad had has been dispatching the seized commodities either to NPK or orphanages or some other places since the beginning.
