Mangalore, June 16: A lonely woman was forcefully evicted from her abode at Nantur Padav in the city on Wednesday thanks to the landlords who is accused of employing goons to throw household things and utensils out of the house.
According to 45 year old Girijamma, the goons dragged her out of the home despite she appealed repeatedly to give her some time.
“I have no other place to go now. This is my house” said Girijamma, who is still helplessly sitting in front of the same house.
Lingappa Nantur, a leader of Dalit Rights Committee affiliated to CPM said that the woman has been making a living rolling beedi and she has no other place to stay.
Alleging the landlords Balakrishna Shetty and Pramod Shetty of bribing police to threaten the women, he said that goons evicted the women in the presence of police.
“Her ancestors had been living in the same home since 80 years. After the death of her parents, she was staying at the 400 sq ft house along with her friend Venkamma. Her father used to pay monthly rent, but, now she is not in a position to pay rent due to poverty,” he said adding that the Committee is demanding that she must be allowed to stay at the same house on humanitarian grounds.
