Udupi, Jun 17: Fishermen of traditional boats, on Friday morning offered Samudra Pooja to Arabian Sea.
They offered pooja to their community goddesses - Sri Kulamahasthree Amma of Bennekudru and Sri Mahalaxmi of Ucchila and also to Sri Balarama of Vadabandeshawara Temple. Offered baagina to the sea at Malpe beach.
During the 45 days ban on deep sea fishing fishermen venture in to the sea in traditional boats.
Samudra Pooja is offered to seek blessings of the Sea god for big catch and protection from toofans.
Janardana Thingalaya, president of Traditional Boat Fishermen's Association said that in the traditional fishing every fisherman participating in it would get an equal share. There are 3-4 lakh fishermen in DK and Udupi districts.
