Udupi, Jun 19: AICC General Secretary and Rajyasabha member Oscar Fernandies accused the BJP led Karnataka Government of weakening the Panchayat Raj system by diverting funds of Gram Panchayats to the MLAs.
He was speaking at the Congress Nadige - Janara Balige, programme organized at the residence of Moodumane Sanjiv Sherigar, near Karval in Alevoor village here on Sunday.
Oscar said that the Congress Nadigi- Janara Balige was aimed at connecting party leaders to the grass root workers to strengthen the party base in the state.
He also called upon the party men to expose the ill deeds of the corrupt BJP government in the state and publicise the flagship projects of the Congress led UPA government.
In his presidential address Alevoor Gram Panchayat President Hareesh Kini stressed the need for frequent visits of party leaders to the rural areas. Ex MLA Vasanth V Salian, KPCC Secretary MA Gafoor, ZP Member Diwakar Kundar, TP member Pravin Shetty, KPYCC General Secretary Amruth Shenoy, Shekhar Kalapratibha, Kittu Naik, Ramananda Nayak and others participated.
