Mangalore, June 20: Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists on Monday demanded stern action against those responsible for the tragic end of the life of a 21 year old college student, who had committed suicide.

Saritha, daughter of Vasantha, had allegedly set herself ablaze after pouring kerosene in the bathroom of her house in Barebail near Kadri at around 11 am on Sunday.

Although it was not clear that what prompted Saritha, who was studying in final year B.Com at University College here, to take the extreme step, friends and classmates of the deceased have revealed that she was fed up of excessive eve-teasing by a bus-conductor and a group of miscreants.

The ABVP activists also submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner urging the district administration to convene a meeting of all bus conductors and drivers and also check their bio-data.

However, it is also said that the criticism and teasing in the friend circle on her frail figure prompted Saritha to end her life.

Meanwhile, Narayana Bhatta H R, the Principal of the College said that Saritha had not submitted any written complaint to her lecturer on the alleged eve-teasing, despite the availability of proper counselling system in the college.

A case of unnatural death has been registered at Kadri police station. The post mortem report is expected to be out by next week.
