Mangalore, June 21: Karnataka railway is usually neglected under the railway budget but the extension of Mangalore-Bangalore rail to Kannur instead of Karwar is an intolerable injustice made to the people of state. In order to fight against this injustice all political leaders should come on one platform and raise their voice said, Hanumanth Kamath, President, Paschima Karavali Railway Yatri Abhivradhi Samiti.
Addressing the press meet here on Tuesday he said that it was decided in the IRTTC meet held in Bangalore in 2009 that the train will be extended to Karwar. The time table for the running of the train was also laid in that meet itself. But during the railway budget joint minister of railway proposed the name of Kannur instead of Karwar, which has betrayed people of the region.
However the High Court in it's verdict on May 24 has directed to extend the rail to Karavar instead of Kannur within 3 months. The RTI Act came in handy for the Samiti in its battle, he said.
Mr. Hanumanth also warned the central government that if they fail to extend the train to Karwar, the Samiti will hold a massive statewide protest.
Mr Divakar , Secretary of Paschima Karavali Railway Yatri Abhivradhi Samiti and Mr Chandrahas Joint Secretary were present at the meet.
