Confusion prevailed among the residents of Bhatkal town after the police launched door to door survey seeking details of the people and their credentials for the last one week. While the senior police officials referred this as a routine exercise towards crime prevention, the locals suspected something amiss as such exercise has been exclusively kept in the Muslim dominated areas.
Mr Ramesh said that some people in Bhatkal might have mistaken the beat survey because the town has the majority of the Muslim community.
“This is a district wise exercise and such survey is still on in Hindu and Christian dominant areas of the district too”, he said adding that police have nothing to do with the religion or caste of the people.
He assured that the exercise is part of crime prevention strategy and police are collecting the data only for the security of the people.
The SP also urged the people to co-operate with police and stop suspecting them.
