Mangalore, June 23: A city traffic constable was injured following an altercation on the road between him and a Karantaka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus conductor near Karavali Circle on Wednesday.
Eyewitnesses told The Hindu that the KSRTC bus from Puttur halted at a place where police have disallowed stoppage for any vehicle. Traffic constable Rajesh objected and asked the bus driver to stop the bus at the scheduled place. When the driver refused, the traffic constable sought to book a case. The bus driver got off the bus and was arguing with Rajesh, the eye witnesses said.
As the verbal duel picked up heat, bus conductor Manjunath intervened and allegedly assaulted Mr. Rajesh. This prompted Assistant Sub Inspector Madhu T, who was in the vicinity, to call for more police personnel. The police took away both Manjunath and Rajesh to the Kadri Police Station, the eye witnesses said.
All the bus passengers of the Puttur bus were sent in another bus. The Puttur bus was taken to the Kadri Police station, the eyewitnesses said.
When contacted, the Kadri police said no case had been registered as the bus conductor and the police constable had resolved the dispute amicably.
