Mangalore, June 23: The vision of government should be aimed at betterment of citizens, but due to number of scams, centre as well as state governments are more worried about finding ways to protect themselves rather than thinking of development of the country, said Mohammed Rafiq, Chief Secretary, H.M.S (Workers Organization).
He was addressing the agitators who gathered in front of Deputy Commissioner's office to protest against the price hike in petroleum products here on Thursday. Blaming that the government is owned by MNCs he said that hike in petroleum products effects the livelihood of every citizen in one or other way.
While urging people to get united, Sitaram, District convener, AITUC said that until people fight against such corrupt governments, the problem of common people will not be solved. Stating that the state government has increased the salary of MLAs, he informed that workers' salary has not been increased for the past 15 years and that they are struggling to make both ends meet. People will answer this corrupt government in the coming elections, he added.
On one liter petrol, 56% of amount will come under tax itself. So by reducing the tax, the hike of petrol can be controlled, said B Madava, Convener, Kendra Karmika Sanghtanegala Janti Samithi, Dakshina Kannada. He stated that the main cause for hike in price of kerosene, diesel and domestic gas is a result of hike in petrol.
Nationwide protest was organized by labour organizations such as BMS, INTC, CITU and AITUC in association with the district unit of the Samithi.
