Muslim woman returns to parents after 'failed inter-caste marriage'

June 24, 2011

Mangalore, June 24: Almost a year after eloping with her Hindu boy friend and marrying him, a city-based Muslim woman has returned to her parents' home, unable to adjust with her in-laws.

Despite the opposition of her family, Shifali (20), a resident of Mangaladevi, had registered her marriage with Divyesh of Boloor on June 17, 2010. Three months ago, Shifali gave birth to a boy, whom Divyesh called Nipun Kumar.

However, frustrated by the family problems and unable to adjust with her in-laws, Shifali along with her three month old baby left her husband and his house on June 21, this year. As she did not return thereafter, Divyesh approached Barke police station and lodged a missing complaint.

When Shifali came to know this, she appeared before Barke police and clarified them that she reunited with her parents on her own wish after failing to adjust with her in-laws. Although Divyesh requested his wife to go with him, she refused saying that she has decided to stay back with her parents.

Police said that religion was not reason for the separation of the couple.
