Mangalore, June 25: District BJP President Padmanabha Kottari on Saturday confirmed that he has received a copy of resignation letter from B Nagaraj Shetty, Chairman of Karnataka Coastal Development Authority Chairman.
Mr Kottari told that Mr Shetty requested to relieve him from the post, citing personal reasons. He said he has not rejected the resignation letter, but, brought the issue to the notice of state level leaders of the party. However, other credible sources within the party said that Mr Shetty has resigned not only to the KCDA post, but also from the primary membership of the party.
Meanwhile, sources close to Mr Shetty informed that Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa has arranged a meeting with him in Bangalore.
Although Mr Shetty, a product of Sangh Parivar, citing “personal reasons” for this resignation, sources said that arrest of BJP leader and Bantwal Urban Development Authority president A Govinda Prabhu in an assault case and criminal charges against two other BJP activists, prompted him to dispatch his resignation letter in a huff.
“His failure to influence the police to prevent the arrest of BUDA president might have created a negative impression within him”, said a BJP activist on condition of anonymity.
Resignation issue are not new deal for Shetty, as in 2006, he faced allegations over his failure to restore peace when unrest prevailed in the district. He had quit from the posts of district-in-charge minister and minister of fisheries by submitting a resignation letter to then JD(S)-BJP coalition government.
However, BJP leaders including then Deputy Chief Minister Yeddyurappa, had succeeded in convincing Mr Shetty to change his mind over the resignation issue.
Mr Shetty, who faced defeat in last Assembly polls at the hands of Congress leader B Ramanath Rai in Bantwal constituency, was appointed as the first chairman of the newly formed KCDA, three years ago.
