Mangalore, July 7: As the Central committee of CPI (M) decided to launch a week-long campaign from July 7 against alleged violence and to defend democracy in West Bengal, the district unit of Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a demonstration on Thursday in front of Deputy Commissioner's office, here.
The protesters expressed their anger against “violence in West Bengal under the Mamata regime”
Launching the campaign senior CPI (M) leader B Madhava urged the Central Government to take immediate steps to protect democracy and democratic rights. He also voiced concern over the attacks on left party workers in West Bengal. He said dozens of workers are being killed post-poll situation in West Bengal.
He called upon all democratic forces in the country to protest this onslaught against democracy and uphold democratic values.
Vasantha Achary, General Secretary, District unit CPI (M), said that democracy was facing serious threat in Kerala and West Bengal after the defeat of left parties.
