A Special Vanamahotsava!

July 9, 2011
Mangalore, July 9: Amid drizzling rains, uniform clad special children at 'Sanidhya Residential School and Training Centre for the Mentally Challenged' near here on Friday celebrated Vanamahotsava by planting 48 saplings.

The saplings provided by the Forest Department included May flower, mango, basavana Pada and other fruit and flower-bearing trees.

The children, who hailed from various places including Goa, Maharashtra, Kerala and Karnataka would look after the plants themselves and would be responsible for watering them.

After inauguration the programme, Mangalore City Corporation Commissioner KN Vijayaprakash said planting saplings not only helps the society, but, gives personal satisfaction as well.

Appreciating the efforts of the school, he said looking after the challenged children is a challenging task.

School Honorary Secretary Vasanth Kumar was present.
