Mangalore, July 8: The chief executive officer of DK zilla panchayat suspended the headmaster and second division assistant of Government High School, Bangady, in Belthangady taluk on Thursday.
The CEO initiated disciplinary action against headmaster K G Lakshmana Shetty, assistant B Raju for fraudulently issuing fake receipts and collecting Rs 28,071 as fee from the students, more than what was prescribed by the state government.
DC N S Channappa Gowda had directed deputy director, department of public instruction, to probe complaints against the duo, based on the facts brought to his notice by the media when he visited the taluk recently. The official in turn instructed Belthangady block education officer to probe into the matter and the BEO visited the school on July 5 to inquire into matter. The duo had collected excess fee under the school development and examination heads.
In addition to collecting excess fee from the students, the duo allegedly had kept two bicycles given by the state government under its free bicycle scheme to students in a private godown to be sold separately. The probe undertaken by the BEO had shed light on this fact as well and pending further departmental inquiry, the duo have been placed under suspension, a statement issued by the Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat here on Thursday states.
