Addressing the gathering Dalith leader Jayan Malpe accused the government of trying to disturb the communal harmony in the state.
He accused the BJP led state government of trying to create a future vote bank for the saffron party through the Bhagavad Gita Abhiyan in schools.
Speaking on the occasion noted critic G Rajshekhar said that BJP government in the state is acting as the representative of one particular community, by implementing its saffron agenda through the Bhagavad Gita Abhiyan in school. “It is a blunder and it cannot be pardoned,” he added.
He said, “Government or any of the institutions which were benefitted by the government grants cannot preach any particular religion. But here government is implementing the agenda drafted by the Sangh Pariwar''.
Agitators submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner. In the memorandum they also demanded the government to stop the Bhagavad Gita Abhiyan with immediate effect and withdraw the cases filed against two of the SFI activists in Kolar, for protesting against the Abhiyaan.
Prof Phaniraj and Dinkar S Bengre of Komu Souharda Vedike, Luis Lobo of Catholic Organisations International Forum, Gerald Pinto of Catholic Sabha, Luis Almeida and Gerald Pinto of Catholic Sabha, Akbar Ali of Jamathe Islami Hind , Hussain Kodibengre, Cyril Mathias of District Minority Forum, Khasim Barkur of Muslim Okkuta, Neri Carnelio of Bharathiya Crhirta Okkuta and others participated in the protest.
