Mangalore, July 17: Once again, heavy downpour rocked several parts of three coastal districts of Karnataka. Normal life in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada has been paralysed due to the heavy downpour for the past 48 hours.
At least three persons have lost their lives in rain related tragedies occurred in the past 24 hours of in the three districts. 45 year old Chinappa died when he slipped and fell into a swollen rivulet at Harihara Paltadka in Sullia taluk, police said.
With the lack of storm water drains, water logged roads were a common sight in the city of Mangalore on Saturday and Sunday. The vehicle users were seen wading through the water logged roads.
With the rains lashing the region, the water-level in streams and rivers has increased. Few houses and arecanut plantations were damaged due to gusty winds on last Friday night at Vittal Kasaba also. More than 150 arecanut trees have fallen in the region. The roof of the arecanut storing centre belonging to Srinath was damaged.
Damage to houses due to rains have been reported in all three coastal districts.
Meanwhile, the sea has become rough in Ullal since Thursday. Huge waves have started lashing the shore at Kaiko, Mukkachery, Mogaveerapattana, Hileriyanagara and Subhashnagara.
