Udupi, July 17: Deputy Commissioner of Udupi MT Reju, as a precautionary measure against incessant rains, has declared holiday to all the schools and colleges of the district on July 18, Monday.
According to the information from the DC Office, meteorological department has warned of heavy rains to continue for the next 24 hours.
It has also cautioned the people living beside the rivers to take necessary precautionary measures. It cautioned the fishermen against going for fishing in the sea for the next 48 hours.
In the rain poured for the last 48 hours rivers in the district were over flooded and houses in many of the low lying areas were inundated.
A few houses in Moodugiliyaru near Kota have been inundated. 50 houses in Bannadi, in Vaddarse village has been inundated. Families from both the areas have been shifted to the Ganji Kendras. A bridge in Ajekar, low lying areas of Baikady, Uppur were also inundated.
Due to rain storm house of one Dhooma Shetty in Pilar village was damaged, estimated damage is Rs 1.50 lakhs. House of one Thumbu Poojary in Pilar was damaged to the tune of Rs 1.20 lakhs.
