Speaking to press persons Udupi District in-charge Minister Dr VS Acharya said that in Udupi taluk a total of 39 houses, including 17 kaccha houses and 22 pakka houses were collapsed, 25 areca trees and 12 coconut trees were uprooted. The total loss in Udupi taluk alone has been estimated at Rs 8,44,000, he said.
The low lying residential areas of Bannadi, Chithrapaadi, Moodu Giliyaru, Vaddarse, Kawrady, Pandeshwar and Achlady were inundated. From these areas, as many as 60 people have been rescued by home guards, police and the local volunteers under the directions of the officials and rehabilitated in the Ganji Kendras.
In addition to that more reports of damage to the agricultural crops are awaited, he added.
In Kundapur taluk 21 pakka houses were collapsed. Heskatthuru Primary School was damaged to the tune of Rs 25,000. Anganavadi buildings of Paduvari and Tarapathi were partially collapsed causing a damage of Rs 60,000 and Rs 72,000 respectively.
In Karkala taluk, 7 pakka houses were collapsed and 420 areca trees were uprooted causing a damage to the tune of Rs 38,500.
Dead body of one Jayalaxmi (20), who was missing since two days, was found in the flood waters of Souparnika River, near Uppinakudru.
