The arrested has been identified as Mohammad Haneef (25), a resident of Bhatkal Puruwarga. He was working as a driver for Thouheed English Medium School in Shirur.
Bhatkal Deputy Superintendent of Police M Narayan has confirmed the arrest saying that Mangalore City Crime Branch Police have taken the youth into their custody.
Local sources said Haneef received a call from an unknown person while he was playing cricket at around 6:30 pm in Battagaun near Bhatkal. The caller took his house address in the pretext of meeting him.
A little later, four unknown persons approached the youth and took him away to an unknown location, said eye witnesses.
They said that the four people identified themselves as sleuths of crime branch. The reason behind the arrest is not yet clear.
However, while contacted, Mangalore City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh and Crime Branch Inspector Venkatesh Prasanna denied the arrest saying that they are not aware of any such incident.
