Joint leaders of the previous round IM's Konguvel and Suvrajit Saha ended in a draw after 43 moves in the 9th round . Konguvel opted for the Sozin attack against Saha's Sicilian . In a bishop and knight ending with pawns Konguvel sacrificed his king's knight pawn to create a passed pawn on the Queen's side.
