Mangalore, July 25: To commemorate the victory achieved by the Indian army against Pakistan at Kargil in 1999, Dakshina Kannada District Ex-Servicemen's Association (DKESA) will be celebrating the 'Kargil Vijay Divas' on Tuesday, July 26, at war memorial situated at Kadri Hills in the city.
Revealing this to media persons at a press meet here on Monday, Radhakrishna Shetty, President, DKESA said, this is the first time his association is going to celebrate the 'Kargil victory' in the city.
He said that the sacrifice of the Indian soldiers would be remembered with a candle light vigil at the war memorial at 7:30 pm. He also sought people's support to make the event successful.
Over 15 Kargil veterans will be present during the ceremony, he added.
As many as 527 Indian soldiers sacrificed their lives and 1363 soldiers were permanently amputated in the war, which ended on July 26 in 1999. Indian Government has honoured four veterans of Kargil with Param Veer Chakra, nine veterans with Maha Veer Chakra and 55 other veterans with Veer Chakra for their bravery.
Meeting
Mr Shetty also informed that the annual general body meeting of the DKESA would be held on August 15th at Sainik Bhavan, Light House Hill.
