Mangalore, July 27: Union Minister for Corporate Affairs M Veerappa Moily said that one cannot frame laws by standing in a market according to our whims and fancies.
Speaking to party workers in Mangalore, he flayed Anna Hazare and Yoga guru Baba Ramdev. “The Union government had made preparations for Jan Lokpal Bill 2011 six months ago. However, when the government was making preparations for the Bill, the civil society members started their agitation. Of the 40 points put forth by the Civil Society members, the government had accepted 34 points. The remaining six need to be discussed thoroughly. The members accept everything in the meeting and speak something else with the public,” he ridiculed.
Meaningless
Reacting to Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa's statement that a high level committee should be constituted to probe into phone tapping issue, he said “it was a meaningless appeal. The Lokayukta will submit his report on Wednesday. Then what was the need for the committee?” he asked.
“Based on Lokayukta's report, Governor will take action against the Chief Minister and his cabinet collegues who were involved in illegal mining racket. The Union government cannot dissolve a State government all of a sudden. The Centre has its own limitations. In such a political scenario, the Governor has the power to take action.”
Moily predicted that the BJP will not come to power in the next 20 years. “The State BJP government is living with the support of the 'oxygen'. If the oxgen supply is removed, then the government will not survive. If Yeddyurappa had any self-respect, then he should have submitted resignation before Lokayukta submitted his report on illegal mining.”
The Congress should protest against corruption of the State government, he added. “More than 75 per cent of the programmes which is implemented in the State are funded by the Centre. There is a need to put a board on the schemes in every Gram Panchayat.
The Congress workers should create awareness among the villagers on the central government sponsored programmes.”
“If the Hindu organisations place one poster against the scams in the Union government, then the Congress must put up atleast 10 posters against the State government,” he said.
Former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake, DCC President B Ramanath Rai, MLAs U T Khader, Abhayachandra Jain and others were present. Moily also participated in 'Congress Nadige Janara Balige' programme in Yathimkhana region on the occasion.
