Mangalore, July 28: City based Omega Hospital has invited applications for a two year Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Cardiology in affiliation with Indira Gandhi National Open University from MBBS graduates.
Announcing this at a press meet here on Thursday, Dr K Mukund, senior cardiologist and Chairman of Study Centre, Omega Hospital, said said there is a need for cardiologists to serve in the rural areas of the country, where many people remain distant from modern medical techniques.
He opined that most of the cardiologists are concentrated in urban areas and are inaccessible for most of the rural population of the country.
Explaining about the course, Dr Mukund said, after the completion of this course the doctors will be able to open their own Cardiac Centres in district, Taluk and rural areas, thereby making better medical facilities accessible to the people in rural areas.
The course is conducted in the Omega Hospital by a team of leading cardiologists and the hospital is well equipped with state-of-the-art equipment which will help a lot in training new cardiologists, he said.
The application form of the course will be available at the Omega Hospital free of cost and the final date of enrollment is 10th August, 2011.
Preliminary selection will be made for a total of 8 seats by Dr. Mukund, and the candidates are required to attend a personal interview at the IGNOU Regional Centre, Bangalore for final selection.
