Udupi, August 2: The Udupi CMC has issued a ban order against using plastics below 40 microns within the city limits from August 1, said CMC president Kiran Kumar on Saturday. He said a machine to check the quality of plastics has been purchased by CMC and all shopkeepers should test their plastics kept for sale or used in their shops. He insisted on boards before shops and retail outlets displaying that they don't offer plastics below 40 microns for sale.
Congress member Anandi raised objections over the interference of BJP member Yashpal Suvarna in the affairs of her Vadabandeshwara ward. She said his interfernce was more on the management of flooded water. Member Dinaker Shetty demanded that immediate measures be taken against irregular parking on either side of the roads in Manipal. He said that vehicles are parked haphazardly which is leading to accidents besides creating problmes for free vehicular movement and also for pedestrians.
Kiran Kumar said that despite CMC repeatedly asking Manipal police station to take action against irregular parking, the response from police department side has not been satisfactory.
