Mangalore, August 9: The Udupi City Municipal Council officials have seized about 600 kilo grams of banned plastics over the last four days informed CMC President Kiran Kumar.
The CMC has issued a ban order against using plastics below 40 microns within the city limits from August 1.
With the ban coming into force, a team led by CMC environment engineer Subrahmanya and health officers has been conducting raids in the city limits.
Sources in the CMC said that the officials will suspend the raid temporarily and will start the operation after August 10.
In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner Dr M T Reju, the traders said that the CMC officials have not only seized plastic carry bags of less than 40 micron thickness but have also taken away grocery bags. They said “the officials should seize only the carry bags and Polypropylene should not be seized.”
