Mangalore, August 10: Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal petitioned the Mangalore City Police on Tuesday demanding initiatives to curb the rampant drug mafia in Dakshina Kannada district.
Led by VHP leader Jagadish Shenava the delegation urged the Mangalore City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh to probe into the allegation that Mangalore's former Mayor Ashraf's son Arif and his friends are involved in drug racket.
“Many girls in the city have become victims of drug abuse. An organised racket is behind this crime”, the delegation said.
Mr Singh promised to take legal action against the narcotics mafia.
The organisations also submitted another memorandum requesting the Commissioner to stop the use of DJ equipment and obscene clothes which humiliate Indian culture during Krishna Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi and Navarathri celebrations.
Gopal Kutthar, General Secretary, VHP, Srikara Prabhu, BJP leader, Sharan Pompwell, Convenor, Bajrang Dal, Mangalore were among the delegation.
